Bible Reading At Life Church

We’re passionate about the Bible at Life Church and we love to encourage each other to dig into God’s word more regularly by focusing on reading certain books each month. Here are the books we’re reading together in the next couple of months.

Psalm Book 1 (1-41)

1 Thessalonians

2 Thessalonians

Beginning of Israel’s story and the first Christian community.
The first of the five Books of Psalms relates back to Genesis – God’s relationship with humanity.

Psalm Book 2 (42-72)

God delivers us from slavery to sin just as He delivered the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt.
How we approach God under the old and new covenants.

Psalm Book 3 (73-89)

Psalm Book 3 is related to Leviticus; how we access and worship God in His Sanctuary; it is also a heart cry from the depths of despair as Israel, in Exile, reaches out to God

Psalm Book 4 (90-106)

Book 4 of the Psalms echoes the book of Numbers with themes of wandering in the desert and how Israel relates to other nations. God is sovereign over all the nations. The despair of Book 3 is replaced with hope and confidence
Esther, the Jewish heroine away from home; Matthew written for the Jews; Galatians for Jewish Christians understanding the Law of Moses, and Philemon whose master has a new responsibility under the law of love.

Psalm Book 5 (107-150)

Remember God’s saving acts, keep your side of the covenant by obeying God’s laws; then God will fulfil His promises including the one made to Abraham that Israel would have a land. Book 5 of the Psalms is a call to a re-gathering, to a renewed faithfulness, to a re-commitment to God’s law.

1 Timothy

2 Timothy

As the people of Israel settle in the land of promise, they fail to live up to their calling.
Around the same period of time, the promise of the Messiah is heard through the story of Ruth. Habakkuk, though from a later time during Israel’s Exile, is still an expression of faith in God when all is lost,
running the race, fighting the good fight of faith
Mark is the source writing for Matthew and Luke.
